Diarrhoea is a digestive disorder in which the bowel movements become loose and watery. A condition where you pass loose stools about 3-4 times a day. There can be numerous reasons for the occurrence of diarrhoea, some of them may include food poisoning, stomach flu, food allergies, etc. It is not a serious problem and usually does not last more than 2 or 3 days. In general, people consider some effective home remedies for gas and acidity to curb gas related problems.
Many women experience this disorder during menstruation. The period or menstruation is the process of discharging blood and uterus tissue through the vagina. In simple terms, every month your body prepares itself for pregnancy and creates a lining in the uterus. Failure in pregnancy causes this lining to shed (through the vagina) in the form of blood.
Every woman goes through a menstrual cycle every month according to their age and body development. When accompanied with diarrhoea, It can be a very discomforting episode to handle.
Diarrhoea during periods does not occur due to some flu or poor eating habits, still, they can contribute to the main cause which is when your lining starts to break and releases the hormones called prostaglandins a few days before your period.
These hormones are solely responsible for contracting the uterus and resulting in shedding of its lining. Sometimes, it not only affects the uterus but the intestines also. The contractions caused in the intestines can potentially lead to various Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. One of them is Diarrhoea.
When prostaglandins decrease the rate of fluid absorption in the intestines, your body fails to slow down the excretion through the colon.
Due to the fast passing of food through the colon, you experience loose stools and weakness. When it is loose in consistency it is referred to as a disorder called diarrhoea.
It is quite normal to encounter loose stools before menstruation. In fact, some women recommence diarrhoea during the period. It actually varies from individual to individual and their body composition.
Another reason for diarrhoea at the time of menstruation is your emotional state. Your emotional imbalance can also aid in triggering GI symptoms. Women who have high levels of anxiety and depression are more prone to suffer from these symptoms.
There is no magical way to treat diarrhoea around menses. You have to apply the same treatment options that you would do while suffering from diarrhoea normally (not before or during periods).
Diarrhoea during periods is a common problem. However, if you suffer from other GI symptoms such as gas, bloating, flatulence, etc., along with diarrhoea then, you can go for some ayurvedic remedies such as Gas-O-fast tablets to get relief from indigestion problems instantly.
