Foods Which Save from Acidity in Cold Weather

January 17, 2019

Acidity or acid reflux is a very common occurrence for us Indians. But the consequences of the same are very bothersome to most of us. Something that you may not be well aware of is that acidity can worsen during the winter months of the year. We tend to be less active during the winters and prefer to stay indoors. This slows down the digestion process in our body, leading to acidity. One more reason for worsened acidity can be consumption of oily and spicy foods during the cold winter months.

How Does Acidity Occur?
When we eat food, it goes down the esophagus (food pipe). The lower esophagus and the stomach glands produce acid, which is required for breaking down the food and converting it into energy for the body (digestion process). When the acid is produced in excess quantity, then acidity happens. This excess production of acid causes a burning sensation near the upper belly and the lower chest. A feeling of fullness can also be there along with a foul taste in the mouth, nausea and bloating.
Prevention from Acidity

It is always better to take preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of acidity. Acidity can be prevented by taking simple measures like
•    Regular exercise (mild exercise will do)
•    Avoiding consumption of cold food
•    Less consumption of alcohol and fatty foods
•    Raising the back area while sleeping by putting a pillow under your back
•    Avoid smoking
•    Keep a gap of around two hours between dinner and sleep
•    Drink plenty of water
