Feeling Acidity or Heartburn? – Do’s & Dont’s

November 10, 2019

Acidity or heartburn is a condition that most people experience at one point or the other. Though very common, it is problematic and causes extreme discomfort. Acidity or Heartburn essentially happens when the normal digestive process is hampered. The lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) opens to allow the food to pass swiftly through it to the stomach and closes right after to avoid any acid or juices from the stomach to flow back into it. Heartburn occurs when the LES is weakened and relaxes inappropriately causing digestive disorders where the contents of the stomach are returned to the oesophageal. This disorder causes one to experience the burning sensation and acidity

While most of the time, we might consider this problem temporary and often get away easily with some home remedies for acidity or heartburn; but that might not solve the problem completely and acidity symptoms might reoccur. That said, the food you eat directly impacts the formation of acid in the stomach. Hence, to manage the problem of acidity or heartburn effectively, it is important to remember some important dos and don’ts in food that help reduce acidity symptoms.

Egg yolks are high in fat and can trigger acidity in some cases.

Healthy Fats: Consumption of healthy fats monounsaturated fats such as avocados, peanuts, peanut butter, nuts, seeds, sesame, canola, and sunflower oil is good to reduce acidity. You should also consume polyunsaturated fats including safflower, soybean, corn, flaxseeds, walnuts, soybeans, tofu, salmon, and trout, which are also healthy and do no trigger acidity symptoms.
