Chickpeas best known as Chhole is the most favorite food of North Indians. It can be served with Puris, Parathas, Chapatis or Rice.
2 cups Chickpea
2 chopped tomatoes
1 cup tomato puree
3 chopped onions
2 cloves minced garlic
1 tbsp. ginger paste
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1½ tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
2 chopped green chilies
4 tsp vegetable Oil
¼ tsp garam masala powder
3 tsp chana masala powder
¼ tsp cumin seeds
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Salt (according to taste)
Soak Chickpeas overnight in salty warm water with two tea bags.
Boil the chickpea along with tea bags in a pressure cooker till they become soft.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds which will splutter. Also, add minced garlic and ginger paste.
Add chopped onions and a pinch of salt to the paste. Fry it till they turn brown in color.
Now, add coriander powder and fry for some time till it becomes light brown. To this, add turmeric powder, chili powder and salt as per the taste.
Take garam masala and chana masala and again fry for some time. Add pureed tomatoes and chopped Green Chilies. Now, fry them till the time oil is visible on the sides.
Take out the tea bags and add chickpeas into the pan without water and stir to mix them.
Add the same water which was left in the pressure cooker while boiling the beans.
Cook the chickpeas with gravy for 8-12 minutes till gravy dries.
Now, garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
No doubt chickpeas are delicious in taste but cause gastric problem most of the time. If you are facing this problem, just mix a sachet of Gas-O-fast in a glass of water and drink it. This will surely give you relief from uneasiness felt after eating chhole.
