5 Important Health and Diet Tips to Manage Acidity

June 17, 2020

Modern-day people are often compelled to follow an unhealthy routine as they work tirelessly to earn their bread and butter. As a result, they usually end up having poor lifestyle and food habits that can eventually impair their digestive health and make them prone to various stomach-related illnesses. One such digestive disorder is acidity.

Acidity, also known as acid reflux, is a physical condition during which the stomach contents are forced to flow back into the oesophagus. The oesophagus is a muscle tube that connects the throat with the stomach. It is closed by a bundle of muscles known as lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS) at the end that prevents the stomach contents from entering back into the oesophagus. However, certain adverse food habits can relax or weaken the LOS and eventually trigger acidity.

Fortunately, people can decide on effective home remedies for heartburn and acidity to relieve the problem. One can also consume natural and top antacids like Gas-O-Fast Jeera that are backed by the power of Ayurveda and provide instant relief from acidity. In addition, following a healthy lifestyle and acknowledging good eating habits is pivotal for preventing and managing acidity.

Here are some important health and diet tips that can help people with acidity:

1. Adequate intake of fluids

Drink adequate amount of water and liquids throughout the day. According to health and nutrition experts, people should drink at least 2.5 to 3 litres of fluids each day. One can also replace water with herbal teas, buttermilk, and fresh juices.

2. Avoid the consumption of fried and fatty foods

Various researches assert that foods that are high in fat content are hard to digest and remain in the stomach for longer periods of time. Moreover, fatty foods also stimulate the release of a hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK) that is known to relax LOS and cause acidity.

3. Eat small and frequent meals

Rather having one large meal at a time, you should eat smaller meals at regular intervals. Always ensure to incorporate fresh fruits, healthy vegetables, green salads, whole grains, and probiotics in your daily diet.

4. Don’t go to bed just after having a meal

Health experts suggest that people should eat their last meal at least 2 to 3 hours before their sleeping time. This is essential for ensuring healthy digestion of the food.

5. Exercise regularly

Physical activities are highly beneficial and somewhat essential for healthy digestive system functioning. Health experts suggest that cardio exercises like brisk walking, running, swimming, etc. can encourage healthy digestion of food.

Following the above-mentioned diet and lifestyle habits can keep the problem of acid reflux at bay. However, if you experience mild acid reflux twice in a week or severe acid reflux once in every week, you should get medical help as it may be an indication of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD.
